Bike Tour in Norway (7)

Welcome to the highlight Trollstigen route. I would be very happy and excited to share my trip along Trollstigen on 2nd August. Though painful in my left knee, I decided to move on the the challenging route because there might be a storm the next day according to the weather forecast.

Though today’s elevation was not the record — 909 meters, it was one of the steepest mountain routes I had ever had, with an average slope of 7%-8%.

Elevation Data

Woke up by my friend, sleepy, tired and a little cold, I felt my body in a poor condition. After some simple food for breakfast, we set out on our journey. The weather was still bad, with fog everywhere and the visibility was quite low.

We also met again the German girl I mentioned a few days ago — she was actually heading towards Bergen. We had a nice chat during the tough ride. She told me she had graduated from university and worked in a company for years, but recently she quit her job and decided to travel a bit before starting a new one. I was really surprised by her travel plans, especially because she was doing it all alone — there must have been so many challenges along the way.

Later, I went on ahead because I was slim and quite light in weight 😀. And I also recorded a short video clip of the climb, using some tech to display real-time statistics. If you feel it too boring and lack of passion, there is also a version with some agressive music (in the ‘highlight moment’ … there should be a link).

After reaching the “top” (actually it’s at the 10km position in the elevation data above), I also waited to film my friend who reached the “top” later. It’s reasonable as his bike was much heavier than mine 😂.

Victory!

And here are some more photos along the way (before going downhill).

After that, we started going downhill, as it was really cold at the top. The descent, however, was an incredibly enjoyable experience — no effort needed, just letting gravity pull you. Here’s a short clip from the ride — one of the most exciting parts of the day.

Another good news for us, the weather turned better and the sun started to shine when we reached the foot of the mountain.

We found another beautiful waterfall that I would really like to share with you. Search Øvstestølbrua in google and you will find it.

We finally arrived in a small town called Sylte and settled at a campsite. We planned to stay here for two more days — to avoid the forecasted storm and to recover my injured knee. In the next chapter, I will explain more about my injury, and the inner battle over whether to continue.
